March 6, 2013 (TSR) - The following is the full Spanish and English translation transcript of Nicolas Maduro’s, Executive Vice-President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as he gave the official announcement of the death of President Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías.

Dear compatriots who hear us and can see us throughout the country’s territories, and our brothers in the world:

Today, March 5, after having attended the meeting of the Council of Ministers and the Political Directorate of Military Revolution, we headed here to the facilities of the Military Hospital in Caracas to follow the sequence of the health of our Commander President and at the time we were getting the part, accompanying their daughters, their brothers, their families, received the most harsh and tragic of news that we will ever convey to our people:

At 4:25 pm today, March 5, Commander President Hugo Chavez Frias died, after a struggle against a hard illness during the course of almost two years, with the love of the people, with the blessings of the people and with absolute loyalty from his comrades in arms and love from all your families.

His mother and father, Elena and Hugo de los Reyes, his brothers, his daughters, his grandchildren and all our people, I convey our sorrow and our solidarity.

We have activated a special deployment of all Bolivarian National Armed Forces, of the Bolivarian National Police, who right now are deployed to accompany and protect our people and guarantee our people with peace. Peace, dear compatriots, respect and peace must go hand in hand.

In this immense pain of this historic tragedy that touches our country today, we call on all our fellow men and women of all ages, to be vigilant for peace, respect, love, peace of this country.

And we, his colleagues, civil and military, we assume, Commander Hugo Chávez, his legacy, his challenges, his project, together with the accompaniment and support of all the people, our flags will be raised with honor and dignity.

Commander, wherever you are, thank you, a thousand times of thank you on behalf of the people whom you protected, loved you and whom you never failed.

We ask our people to channel our grief in peace, calmly. In all social and political organizations of the country, everyone, with respect, in a moment of deep pain, just be understanding, have deeper respect to the greatest ideals of peace, of democracy and of the Homeland of Commander President Hugo Chávez.

To all the peoples of the world, Presidents, Presidents who have called us in all these hours and minutes of pain and difficulty, we thank the Eternal, because we know that in our world today, there is a love and a great recognition to those who developed in life, the most beautiful projects, and humanists who have known in decades of history of our region, for their independence struggle and humanity for peace (world peace).

So we are here, on behalf of the family of Commander Hugo Chávez, the Bolivarian Government, of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces of Venezuela, of all entire Venezuela, we say to our people: We will accompany up to his final resting place, our Commander President, in peace, embracing each other as a family, together as a family, children of the Homeland, youth, workers, all women, men, together as a family, one family, the family of this nation, which the Commander in Chief and Supreme Commander, this eternal revolutionary force, our Commander Hugo Chávez, leaving us as inheritance - free and independent.

Dear compatriots, much courage, great force, great fortitude; We have to grow us above this pain and hardship; We have to be more united than ever, the greatest discipline, the greatest collaboration, the greatest brotherhood and sisterhood. We are going to grow, we are going to be the worthy sons and daughters of the giant of a man that he was and how Comandante Hugo Chávez will always be in our memory.

Let there be no weakness, let there be no violence, no hatred in our hearts; nest only in your hearts the same sentiments that Commander Chavez had: Love, love for life, for history, for Country, for the future, love, peace, unity and discipline.

As we said on December 8 that, in his message to our country, unforgettable message: “Unity, battle and victory.” Today’s victory is the union of the people and peace, people and the armed forces.

A continuación las palabras de Nicolás Maduro, Vicepresidente Ejecutivo de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, para anunciar hoy el fallecimiento del Presidente Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías.

Queridos compatriotas que nos escuchan y nos ven en todo el territorio de la Patria y nuestros hermanos del mundo:

Hoy, 5 de marzo, luego de haber acudido a la reunión del Consejo de Ministros y de la Dirección Político Militar de la Revolución, nos dirigimos aquí a las instalaciones del Hospital Militar de Caracas para seguir la secuencia de la salud de nuestro Comandante Presidente, y en el momento en que nos encontrábamos recibiendo el parte, acompañando a sus hijas, a sus hermanos, a sus familiares, recibimos la información más dura y trágica que podamos trasmitir a nuestro pueblo:

A las 4:25 de la tarde de hoy, 5 de marzo, ha fallecido el Comandante Presidente Hugo Chávez Frías, luego de batallar duramente con una enfermedad, durante casi dos años, con el amor del pueblo, con las bendiciones de los pueblos y con la lealtad más absoluta de sus compañeros y compañeras de lucha y con el amor de todos sus familiares.

A su madre y a su padre, doña Elena y Hugo de los Reyes; a sus hermanos, a sus hijas, a sus nietos y a todo nuestro pueblo, les trasmitimos nuestro dolor y nuestra solidaridad.

Se ha previsto un despliegue especial de toda la Fuerza Armada Nacional Bolivariana, de la Policía Nacional Bolivariana, quienes en este mismo momento se encuentran desplegándose para acompañar y proteger a nuestro pueblo y garantizar junto a nuestro pueblo la paz. La paz, queridos compatriotas, el respeto y la paz tienen que ir de la mano.

En este dolor inmenso de esta tragedia histórica que hoy toca a nuestra Patria, nosotros llamamos a todos los compatriotas, hombres y mujeres de todas las edades, a hacerlos vigilantes de la paz, del respeto, del amor, de la tranquilidad de esta Patria.

Y nosotros, sus compañeros, civiles y militares, asumimos, Comandante Hugo Chávez, su herencia, sus retos, su proyecto. Junto el acompañamiento y el apoyo de todo el pueblo, tus banderas serán levantadas con honor y con dignidad.

Comandante, donde esté usted, gracias, mil veces gracias por parte de este pueblo que usted protegió, que usted amó y que nunca le falló a usted.

A nuestro pueblo le pedimos canalizar nuestro dolor en paz, con tranquilidad. A todas las organizaciones sociales, políticas de la Patria, a todos, con respeto, en un momento de profundo dolor, solo cabe la comprensión, el respeto más profundo a los ideales más grandes de paz, de Patria y de democracia del Comandante Presidente Hugo Chávez.

A todos los pueblos hermanos del mundo, Presidentas, Presidentes que nos han llamado en todas estas horas y minutos de dolor y dificultad, les damos las gracias eternas, porque sabemos que ese mundo nuestro de hoy, allí radica un amor y un reconocimiento muy grande a quien desarrolló en vida los proyectos más hermosos y humanistas que se hayan conocido en décadas de historia de lucha de nuestra región por su independencia y de la humanidad por la paz.

Así que nosotros aquí, a nombre de la familia del Comandante Hugo Chávez, del Gobierno Bolivariano, de la Fuerza Armada Nacional Bolivariana y de toda Venezuela entera, le decimos a nuestro pueblo: Vamos a acompañar hasta su última morada a nuestro Comandante Presidente, en paz, abrazándonos como una familia, juntos como una familia, niños y niñas de la Patria, jóvenes, trabajadores, todos, mujeres, hombres, juntos como una familia, una sola familia, la familia de esta Patria, que nos deja por herencia, libres e independientes, el Comandante en Jefe y Jefe Supremo, eterno de esta fuerza revolucionaria nuestro Comandante Hugo Chávez.

Queridos compatriotas, mucho coraje, mucha fuerza, mucha entereza; tenemos que crecernos por encima de este dolor y de estas dificultades; tenemos que unirnos más que nunca, la mayor disciplina, la mayor colaboración, la mayor hermandad; vamos a crecernos, vamos a ser dignos herederos e hijos de un hombre gigante como fue y como siempre será en el recuerdo el Comandante Hugo Chávez.

Que no haya flaquezas, que no haya violencia, que no haya odio; en nuestro corazón que anide el único sentimiento que tuvo el Comandante Chávez: amor, amor por la vida, por la historia, por la Patria, por el futuro; amor, paz, unidad y disciplina.

Como nos lo dijo aquel 8 de diciembre, en su mensaje a nuestro país, inolvidable mensaje: “Unidad, batalla y victoria.” La victoria de hoy es la unión del pueblo y la paz, pueblo y fuerza armada.

Así que habiendo cumplido esta infausta tarea, dolorosa tarea, nosotros le decimos a nuestro pueblo que nos congreguemos acá a las afueras del Hospital Militar, en las plazas “Bolívar” de cada pueblo, de cada municipio, de cada capital; que llevemos nuestros cantos de homenaje y de honor a nuestros héroes; que llevemos el canto de Alí Primera, “los que mueren por la vida no pueden llamarse muertos”, y a partir de este momento es prohibido llorarlo.

Levantemos con el canto de Alí y el espíritu de Hugo Chávez las fuerzas más grandes de esta Patria, para afrontar las dificultades que nos toque afrontar, y cuente nuestro pueblo que tiene a un gobierno de hombres y mujeres comprometidos en protegerlo.

Aquellos factores que no apoyaron nunca al Comandante Hugo Chávez, respeten el dolor del pueblo y los llamamos también a la paz, como venezolanos y venezolanas a la paz.

Es momento de pensar en nuestras familias, en nuestro país. A ustedes va dirigido nuestro mensaje.

No decimos más, todo lo que teníamos que decir lo dijimos en la tarde de hoy y en los días anteriores. Hoy solo les decimos: respeto, respeto, y a nuestro pueblo también.

Vamos a seguir, en las próximas horas informaremos todos los planes para rendir homenaje póstumo a nuestro Comandante Hugo Chávez, dónde va a ser velado sus restos inmortales, para anunciar las programaciones hasta su definitivo descanso. Todos esos detalles que nuestro pueblo querrá saber, en los próximos minutos y horas se lo trasmitiremos.

Así que mucha fortaleza, mucha oración y asumamos estas dificultades en la vida con el amor más grande que sembró en nuestro corazón Hugo Chávez Frías.
