February 18, 2013 (TSR) - On the morning of Friday, February 15, a new official statement was released by the Venezuelan government regarding the health of President Hugo Chávez, who was also shown in photographs.
The photographs were delivered by Jorge Arreaza, the minister for science and technology, who arrived today from Havana, where he was visiting the president as he recovers from surgery.

For his part, Information Minister Ernesto Villegas indicated that President Chávez is totally conscious, and despite the respiratory infection he suffered, the head of state has a tracheal tube to manage the respiratory deficiency.
Since President Chávez began treatment in December, several officials of the Venezuelan government have addressed the country to inform citizens about his health.
The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela hereby informs the public regarding the health of President Hugo Chávez after his surgery in Havana last December 11.
After two months of a complicated post-operative process, the patient remains conscious, in command of his intellectual functions, in broad communication with his government at the helm of the essential tasks required by his post.
As has been made known in a timely manner, the respiratory infection he faced in the post-operative process was controlled, although a certain level of respiratory insufficiency remains.
Given this circumstance, which is being duly treated, Commander Chávez is presently breathing through a tracheal tube which temporarily makes speech difficult.
The medical team is vigorously applying treatment for the underlying illness, which is still not free from complications.
The patient is cooperating with the treatment and rehabilitation in broad coordination with the medical team.
The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela thanks the Venezuelan people for the love, serenity, maturity and strength with which they have accompanied Commander Chávez in this battle and invites them to continue to pray for his health.
This year, which is the Bicentennial of the Admirable Campaign, this exemplary attitude of the Venezuelan people confirms that they are, in effect, the same admirable people that struggled alongside our liberator, Simón Bolívar, for the cause of independence.
The Bolivarian government ratifies, as well, its appreciation toward Commander Fidel Castro and President Raúl Castro, the medical team, and the Cuban people for the love expressed by the citizens for our president.
Together with the Venezuelan people and other peoples of the world, we trust that Commander Chávez will soon overcome these delicate circumstances to accompany his people on the path toward new victories in the construction of the good nation.
