Assad grateful supporters thank Russia, China in Syrian capital

Oct 12, 2011 (TSR) - A rally attended by thousands of Syrians took place in Damascus’s “Seven Seas Square” on Wednesday to thank Russia and China after these two countries prevented the adoption of a resolution on Syria at the United Nations Security Council recently.

Many Syrians chanted slogans to thank Russia and China and to show their support for President Bashar al-Assad.

Military helicopters flying over the Syrian capital carried the flags of Russia and China.

A large group of Syrians chanted slogans as “there is no discrimination between the Alevis, Sunnis, Shiites, Christians, Kurds and Arabs”, “no to sectarianism, yes to Syrian unity” and “people want Bashar”.

One of those attending the parade, Ahmad Abu Alaa said that they were behind Assad till the end.

Nothing will happen to Assad as long as the people are behind him. Allah, Syria and Assad, these are what matters, Alaa said.

Another participant of the rally, Abu Hussain said that they thanked China and Russia.

We are here to show our solidarity with Assad. Syria will never go down. We will always be on our feet, Hussain said.

During the rally, the flags of Syria, Baas Party, Russia, China and Hezbollah could be seen.

Religious figures from various sects also attended the Damascus rally.
