The mysterious National Intelligence Organization (Turkish: Milli Istihbarat Teskilati, MIT), the agency that handles both foreign and domestic intelligence-gathering operations, is enjoying a broad mandate and answerable by law only to Prime Minister Erdogan. It poses a potential threat to Turkey's democratic system according to some observers who have voiced concerns.

Meanwhile, Syrian Electronic Army attacked the same website and leaked more than 60 email addresses, passwords.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed from the very beginning of the protests in Turkey, that he would not lend any importance to the demonstrators, and described the protesters as ‘thieves.’
