May 13, 2013 (TSR) – Moaz al-Khatib, the outgoing president of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) has revealed major rifts among opposition groups according to media reports.
Al-Alam quoted al-Khatib saying that “Matters have now reached a point that it is no longer acceptable. I have become only a means to sign some papers while there are hands from different parties involved who want to decide on behalf of the Syrians,” and that “for this reason I decided to pull out.”
On the behind-the-scenes of the formation of interim government for regions under rebel forces control, al-Khatib said that two countries in the region competed to form government.
He told the Al-Alam news anchor when the anchor said that all knew that you meant Saudi Arabia and Qatar, that “why would you ask about what you know?”
“Some names come to the fore by specific circles. I do not agree with the process. Thus, Suhair Atassi, George Sabra, Riad Seif, and Mustafa al-Sabaq should resign from the coalition and work at other committees, and should not interfere with electing prime minister,” he explained.
Al-Khatib believed that there should be a direct link between the SNC and Syrian government, and that “they should negotiate directly.”
