March 5, 2014 (TSR) – Syria militants have become well-paid spies of the Israeli intelligence authorities, giving them considerable amounts of money in return for information.

At least three different militant groups have been in regular contact with Israeli intelligence officials, Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National reported on Sunday.

All groups have received more than one tranche of funding worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from Israel, the daily newspaper quoted a source from one of the militant groups in southern Syria.

In late February, an unnamed Israeli commander admitted that the Israeli military is in contact with the foreign-backed militant and terrorist groups inside Syria.

The militants also provided Israeli intelligence officials with information on the identity and medical condition of the wounded militants, the Israeli commander said.

Some reports say hundreds of terrorists have received treatment in Israeli hospitals. Most of them have returned to Syria, where they fight Syrian Arab foreces.

On February 18, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly paid a visit to a secret field hospital in the occupied Golan Heights, which offers medical services to the injured militants coming in from Syria.

On February 21, foreign-backed Syrian opposition leader Muhammad Badie reportedly praised Netanyahu for visiting the wounded militants.
