August 28, 2013 (TSR) – Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, reassured on Wednesday that a US military action in Syria “will be catastrophic on the region”, and the “United States will incur blows to itself in Syria as in Afghanistan and Iraq”.
Imam Khamenei said, as he received Iranian President Sheikh Hasan Rouhani and cabinet members, that “Western powers’ intervention in Syria or any other country would only fuel the flames of war and conflict, and deepen peoples’ anger towards it.”
His eminence added that “these interventions would be similar to a spark which hit a barrel of gunpowder.”
On the Egyptian situation, Imam Khamenei stressed that “Iran does not want to interfere in Egypt’s internal affairs,” indicating that “killing unarmed protestors is condemned by everyone.”
