Feb. 1, 2013 (TSR) – Israeli jets carried out a bombing operation in Syria on Tuesday a very dangerous escalation of the increasing regionalisation of the Syrian civil war.

The action was a clear violation of the UN Charter and an unwarranted act of aggression. It is not yet clear what the Israelis bombed. The Syrian government claims that a military research centre was destroyed, but other sources, including western diplomats and Syrian rebels, say that the Israelis hit an arms convoy meant for the Hezbollah.

“But even before knowing exactly what the Israelis bombed, the act of carrying out such a raid is a very dangerous step. The fact that Israel was able to launch a bombing raid with impunity is a stark reminder to both the Syrian government and opposition that Israel is still the region’s pre-eminent military power, and is willing to use this power as it sees fit with no reference to any legal or moral compulsions,” says UAE local English language daily, Gulf News, in its editorial on Friday.

It added, as the fighting in Syria has spread, the government has brought in forces from Iran, and the opposition has a variety of allied forces fighting independently alongside its forces, or taking orders from coalition commanders. These include a variety of Islamists who have come to join the fighting in Syria.

The paper noted that the Kurds have also organised a militia of several thousand fighters in the north-east. And these are only a few of many others who have joined the fighting, but have not yet been put on record.

It underlined that it is important to note that these Iranian, Israeli, Kurdish and Islamist forces are not fighting for Syria. They are in the war for their own purposes, seeking to take tactical advantage in the chaos of the civil war from which they want to grab some long term strategic advantage when a settlement finally emerges.

“Their blatant opportunism poses a real problem for Syrian politicians as they try to find a negotiated way forward. This is partly why opposition leader Muath Al Khatib faced such trouble from his supporters when he suggested that he might be ready to talk to the government if his conditions were met,” the paper concluded.

BACKGROUND BRIEFING

As I told you since the Syrian Crisis started in 2011, Israel in the main instigator of all this as they want to divide the country into 3.

The name Golan Heights was not used before the 19th century. The UN refers to the region as The Occupied Syrian Golan.

The Golan Heights was under Israeli military administration from 1967 to 1981. In 1981, Israel passed the Golan Heights Law,which applied Israeli “laws, jurisdiction and administration” to the Golan Heights. Although the law in effect annexed the territory to Israel, it was not formally annexed. The area was administered as part of Israel’s North District.

Israel’s action was not recognised internationallyand United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 which declared the Golan Heights an Israeli occupied territory continues to apply. Israel maintains that it may retain the area as the text of Resolution 242 calls for “safe and recognised boundaries free from threats or acts of force”.

In addition to its strategic military importance, the Golan Heights is an important water resource, especially at the higher elevations, which are snow-covered in the winter and help sustain baseflow for rivers and springs during the dry season. The heights receive significantly more precipitation than the surrounding, lower-elevation areas. The occupied sector of the Golan Heights provides or controls a substantial portion of the water in the Jordan River watershed, which in turn provides a portion of Israel’s water supply. The Golan Heights supply 15% of Israel’s water.

In the aftermath of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Israel agreed to return about 5% of the territory to Syrian civilian control. This part was incorporated into a demilitarised zone that runs along the ceasefire line and extends eastward. This strip is under the military control of UN peace keeping forces.

Construction of Israeli settlements began in the remainder of the territory held by Israel, which was under military administration until Israel passed the Golan Heights Law extending Israeli law and administration throughout the territory in 1981.This move was condemned by the United Nations Security Council in UN Resolution 497, which said that “the Israeli decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights is null and void and without international legal effect.”

Bottom line, this is about the access to the Sea of Galilee. Israel offers to withdraw to the pre-1948 border (the 1923 Paulet-Newcombe line), while Syria insists on the 1967 frontier. Syria continues to demand a full Israeli withdrawal to the 1967 borders, including a strip of land on the east shore of the Sea of Galilee that Syria captured during the 1948–49 Arab-Israeli War and occupied from 1949–67. The former line has never been recognised by Syria, claiming it was imposed by the colonial powers, while the latter was rejected by Israel as the result of Syrian aggression. The difference between the lines is less than 100 m for the most part, but the 1967 line would give Syria access to the Sea of Galilee, and Israel wished to retain control of the Sea of Galilee, its only freshwater lake and a major water resource.

The international community rejects Israeli claims to title to the territory and regards Golan Heights as sovereign Syrian territory.

So just like what Israel normally does, they do the covert and overt operations to destabilize, then make up reasons, use mainstream media propaganda channels like Jew York Times (oops, I meant New York Times), and steal borders, just like they did with the 1967 borders with the Palestinians and Egypt. People need to wake up and see TRUTH for what it is, not through the lenses of nonstop jewish “victimhood” propaganda. The world is getting tired of it and is very aware that the group of people who went through holocaust is doing the same atrocities to other groups of minorities.

Israel’s occupation and illegal annexation can be likened to what USA did to Hawaii. May international laws be respected and honored once and for all, and Humanity choose a multipolar world where justice and accountability to the rule of law is equal across the board now. We must put to trial the nations who have committed war crime after war crime, and there are at least 2 particular nations on Earth who seem to think they are immune and are yet to be tried as War Criminals.
