Jan. 30, 2013 (TSR) – Nearly 2 million people trekked to the National Mall in 2009 to welcome President Obama into office. Many of them also wanted to hear what the candidate of Hope and Change would bring to the presidency. Turns out, his first inauguration speech offered a lot of hope, but not necessarily a ton of change. Check out what we mean below:

1- “Our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions — that time has surely passed”
– President Obama’s First Inaugural Address, Jan. 20, 2009

2- “We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together.”
– President Obama’s First Inaugural Address Jan. 20, 2009

3- “Those of us who manage the public’s dollars will be held to account, to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day, because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.”
– President Obama’s First Inaugural Address, Jan. 20, 2009

4- “We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories.”
– President Obama’s First Inaugural Address Jan. 20, 2009

5- “Those of us who manage the public’s dollars will be held to account, to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day, because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.”
– President Obama’s First Inaugural Address, Jan. 20, 2009

6- “This crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control. The nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous.”
– President Obama’s Inaugural Address Jan. 20, 2009

7- “The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works, whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end.”
