January 4, 2013 (TSR) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) has condemned Washington’s insistence on keeping its nuclear arsenal, saying the US is the world’s sole nuclear criminal.

“The US nuclear attitude has shown Washington is the only nuclear criminal in the world and is the only government which has used nuclear energy and weapon against innocent people,” Saeed Jalili told reporters in a press conference in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on Friday.

He added that the United States has the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons and is now upgrading and studying the new generation of such weapons.

“Two years ago, we announced to the [International Atomic Energy] Agency [IAEA] that the US is a criminal…[for] proliferating nuclear weapons. Which country [was it that] gave the Zionist regime [of Israel] atomic weapons?

Based on declassified US documents, which we gave the Agency, about 40 years ago more than 130 kilograms of highly-enriched uranium has gone missing in the US,” Jalili noted.

He added that Iran has asked IAEA to investigate the case of the missing uranium.

Referring to the Syrian crisis, Jalili said Iran has offered a peace plan and has called for an end to the conflict since its beginning in the Arab state.

The SNSC secretary stressed that bombs and weapons cannot create democracy.

“We believe that foreign meddling and terrorism are not the solution in Syria. There should be a political way based on national talks and without foreign meddling. Every choice [made by] the Syrians…should be respected by all. We have this attitude towards everyone,” Jalili concluded.

Many people, including a large number of Syrian security forces, have lost their lives in the ongoing Syria unrest which began in March 2011.

Damascus says certain Western states, especially the United States, and their regional allies are fueling the unrest, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants fighting in the country are foreign nationals.
