August 24, 2012 (TSR) – A group of Turkish demonstrators have rallied in Ankara to condemn their government’s extra attention to the ongoing unrest in Syria, while ignoring their own internal problems, Press TV reports.
The protesters on Thursday chanted slogans against the Turkish government, which they blamed for unsecure frontiers, notably at a time when the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has stepped up its cross-border attacks.
In a separate development, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad accused Turkey of helping “terrorist gangs” fighting the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
“The (factors) that have fuelled this crisis are well-known — armed groups, terrorist groups supported by regional circles, including the dangerous support by Turkey of terrorist gangs, providing these with sophisticated weapons,” Miqdad said.
He accused Turkey of “giving these terrorists, including al-Qaeda, free access to Turkey to come to Syria. I think this should stop.” Syria blames Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar for funding the insurgents.
Earlier in the day, the insurgents said more foreign mercenaries are joining them as Syrian citizens refuse to join their armed operations against the government.
Among the foreign nationals fighting alongside them against the Syrian government are insurgents, known to be linked to al-Qaeda terrorists.
Syria has been scene of deadly unrest since mid-March 2011 and many people, including Army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.
