August 7, 2012 (TSR) – Two Decrees on Dismissing Riyad Hijab from His Post and Designating Omar Galawanji as Caretaker Premier. President Bashar al-Assad on Monday issued Decree No 294 on dismissing Prime Minister Riyad Hijab from his post. The President issued Decree No. 295 on designating Eng. Omar Galawanji as a caretaker premier in addition to his tasks as Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs and Minister of Local Administration.

Ministers of Finance and Awqaf Deny as Untrue News on Their Defection

Minister of Finance, Mohammad Jleilati, on Monday dismissed media reports which claimed that he defected as “untrue”.
“I am a Syrian citizen before being a minister,” Jleilalti told the Syrian TV by phone, stressing that he was speaking from his office and that he is carrying out his duties freely and transparently.

The minister said that misleading media has been spreading baseless rumors with the aim of undermining the citizens’ confidence in their state, indicating that he was attending a meeting for the economic committee at the cabinet building.

Minister Jleilati added that such instigative rumors aim at provoking economic collapse in Syria, underlining procedures taken by the government and Ministry of Finance to protect the Syrian economy.

He condemned the criminal attack against the building of the General Organization of TV & Radio as “terrorist act” aimed at destabilizing Syria.

Minister of Awqaf Refutes News on His Defection

Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments), Dr. Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed, refuted as untrue the news broadcast by some instigative media on his defection.

In a statement to SANA, the minister said that what has been circulated are but dreams and illusions plotted by misleading media about Syria, stressing that no one can defect from his homeland, morals or values.
