July 27, 2012 (TSR) - An adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has described the US-led efforts against Syria as attempts to compensate for their past losses in the region.
“They don’t want the borders of the Zionist regime (Israel) to be imperiled and feel obligated to compensate for the (loss of) the Sinai Desert in Syria,” said Ali Akbar Velayati, international affairs consultant to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, during a Thursday gathering of Basij medical teams in Tehran.
Referring to Syria as the “golden ring in the resistance chain” against the Tel Aviv regime, Velayati added that the recent bombings in Syria constituted “a plan by the Americans and the Zionists” to bring down the government in Damascus, which failed.
Pointing to the recent comments by Russia’s UN ambassador that the ultimate aim of anti-Syria efforts were to act against the Islamic Republic in the region, the Iranian official underlined that thanks to the Islamic Revolution, Iran is not only a regional power now but it serves as a trans-regional force.
Velayati also reiterated that the Islamic Awakening movement in the region has undoubtedly undermined “Western countries and those that created the Zionist (regime) to challenge Muslim unity in the region.”
He further pointed to the developments in Egypt and noted that whatever happens in that country will reverberate throughout the Arab world.
