We Are Gay Too: Facebook Co-Founder Chris Hughes Marries Longtime Boyfriend In New York
July 3, 2012 (TSR) - Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes can now officially change his status to “married.”
As Forbes is reporting, the openly gay Hughes, 28, tied the knot with his longtime boyfriend Sean Eldridge at their home in Garrison, N.Y.
The 28-year-old Hughes, who co-founded Facebook with his roommates Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz in 2004, is perhaps better known now for his political activism and as the owner and editor-in-chief of The New Republic, Forbes’Brian Solomon notes.
Eldridge, 25, is the founder and treasurer of Protect Our Democracy, an advocacy group based in Garrison that seeks campaign finance reform, The New York Times is reporting. He also heads up Hudson River Ventures, an investment company.
The couple met in Boston in 2005, when Eldridge was working as a customer service manager for a moving company in Somerville, Mass., and Hughes was a senior at Harvard, according to the Times.
“[Eldridge] was very intelligent and charismatic,” Hughes gushed. “He was very kind and politically engaged, and he cared about the world around us. All of that was very attractive to me.”
Zuckerberg, Sean Parker, Gayle King, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Newark Mayor Cory Booker are just a few of the high-profile guests who attended the wedding, the New York Post reports.
Interestingly, Hughes’ wedding nearly coincides with Facebook’s release of new timeline icons for same-sex married couples.
