Singapore: Permanent residents and International Students to pay more school fees from 2013
June 28, 2012 (TSR) – Singapore’s Ministry of Education announced Tuesday that students who are permanent residents and international students will pay more school fees in both government and government-aided schools ever since next January.
In perticular, school charge for permament residents will see a rise of 50-80 Singapore dollars (39-62.5 U.S. dollars) to 90-160 Singapore dollars (70.3-125 U.S. dollars) per month, while international student will pay another 115-250 Singapore dollars ( 89.8-195.3 U.S. dollars) for school fee every month.

It means a foreign student applying for study in Singapore will pay 500, 650 and 1000 Singapore dollars (390.6, 507.8 and 781.2 U. S. dollars) respectively for primary school, secondary school and pre-university school every month.
The revision of school fee is aim to further differentiate fees by citizenship, the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry also announced the monthly standard miscellaneous fees covering all students will increase by 1 Singapore dollars (0. 78 U.S. dollars) at primary level, 2 Singapore dollars (1.56 U.S. dollars)at secondary level and 2.50 Singapore dollars (1.95 U.S. dollars) at Pre-University level from next January.
Singapore has recently run various measures to curb its immigrant influx in order to ensure its citizens’ rights in schooling and employment. International students graduating from the city-state’s university also find it hard to find a job here.
